New PD Racer Fleet in Florida
Great news everyone, Florida now has a brand new PD Racer Fleet! The Kings Bay PD Racers
There are already plans to hold regular events around Florida and who knows, perhaps a try at hosting the 2011 World Event.
The PD Racer is very easy to build and easy to sail, making this is a great first boat for anyone who wants to get started and it is affordable.
We are excited to be a part of the PD Racer family and are looking forward to promoting such a great boat.
There is just something special about sailing a boat that you built yourself.

What a great time we had at the First Annual Crystal River Boat Bash!
The weather was wonderful and there were some amazing wooden boats to admire, to include the maiden voyage of the 14ft Chesapeake Sharpie Skiff, built with traditional hand tools by the Crystal River Boat Builders.
The event was held at the Crystal River Preserve State Park over this past weekend and if you can, put it on your calendar for next year. When I get the photos off the camera I’ll make sure to post them for you.

Next is to bend a 1/4″ strip along the nails, creating the curve of the bottom. Once this is clamped in place, we will mark the plywood for our cut.

The first step is to set the stations to establish the bottom curve of the boat.
We accomplish this by using nails at specified distances, measured from the bottom and the side edge of the plywood.
The first step with any build is to review the plans and materials list. Making sure we picked up everything we needed to start the build during our shopping trip. We know it is some much fun going back and forth to your favorite supply store in the middle of a build, but we avoid this as much as possible.

We are starting an assisted build of a PD Racer at the Boat Works Shop with a client. The PDRacer is a one design racing sailboat that is basically a plywood box with a curved bottom, the designer says that it is the easiest boat in the world to build, we agree that it is straight forward, but there are areas that really need you to pay attention to early in the build.
The plans are free, but you must adhere to class rules to be able to compete. The boats must have have the lower 10″ of their hulls be alike, but the rest is up to the builder. The builder can be very creative here. You can put any type of sail rig or underwater fins that you wish. Also the interior and deck above 10″ is completely up to you.
